(O'FALLON, Ill., Sept. 29) – The McKendree University women's hockey team hosted the defending National Champion Liberty University at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats would be shutout 4-0 by the visiting Flames, moving McKendree's record to 0-2 on the young season.
The Bearcats held Liberty off the scoreboard until the Flames found the back of the net with seven minutes remaining in the opening period. With just 19 seconds left in the period, Liberty found the back of the net once again to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
After back and forth play in the second period, Liberty scored again with two minutes remaining in the period.
In the final period, the Flames secured an insurance goal on the power play to push their lead to 4-0. The Bearcats final push wouldn't be enough as McKendree would be held scoreless in a 4-0 loss to Liberty University.
The Bearcats will go on the road next weekend, Oct. 5-6, for a two game series with Davenport University.
