(LEBANON, Ill., Sep. 7) – The McKendree University women's soccer team begins their season 1-0-0 after defeating the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College 3-2 this past Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats got on the board early in the first half, after a corner kick courtesy of sophomore midfielder
Emma Knoebel (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) found the boot of senior
Madyson Mossman (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy), a lead McKendree would carry into halftime. Kentucky Wesleyan came into the second half firing on all cylinders, scoring two goals, however the Bearcats never sacrificed their lead with Mossman and fellow senior
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West High School) punching two goals in between the KWC posts. After some intense back-and-forth play in the final minutes, McKendree held on to secure their first with of the 2019 season.
Though the score was close, the stat sheet was not. McKendree outshot the Panthers 26 to four, with 18 and 3 shots on goal respectively. The Bearcats also led in corner kicks, with 11 to KWC's two. Senior goalkeeper
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering High School) recorded one save in the victory.
The women's soccer team aims to finish the weekend undefeated, as they prepare to battle the Panthers of Ohio Dominican University this Sunday on Leemon Field at noon.
