(KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 18) - The McKendree University women's basketball team defeated Rockhurst University 74-48 for its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) road win. The Bearcats are now 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the GLVC.
In the victory, senior guard
Madison Hart (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Hart remained perfect from the field goal range going five for five in the game and then hitting three out of her four free throws. Her double-digit rebound count led the Bearcats defensive efforts for the day and marked her eighth game recording double digit rebounds on the season.
The Bearcats soared to an early lead 11-2 in the first five minutes of the first quarter and maintained a large point spread throughout the remainder of the game. 11 Bearcats registered points as McKendree shot 54 percent from the field goal range, 35.7 percent from behind the arch, and 88.2 percent at the free throw line.
As a team, the Bearcats collected eight of their 74 points off of second chance opportunities, 17 off of turnovers, and 36 were recorded in the paint. McKendree had six bench players account for 22 of its total points, with sophomore forward
Erin Stroberg (Rockford, IL/Rockford East) and junior guard
Madison Jones (Abingdon, IL/Abiingdon-Avon) leading the efforts, each with five points.
Two Bearcats registered double-digit points for McKendree to lead the offensive efforts. Senior guard
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) collected 18 points, marking her tenth game with double-digit points on the season. Hart was the other Bearcat in double digits with 13. Sophomore guard
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour) was also a key offensive player, tallying nine points in the game.
McKendree will be back in action with a Monday night game at Southern Indiana in Edwardsville, Ind. on Jan. 20. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
