(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Jan. 30) – The McKendree University men's basketball team defeated Lindenwood University in overtime 121-116 on Thursday night in St. Charles, Mo. The Bearcats improve to 11-8 overall on the season and 6-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
Lindenwood shot to an early 16-4 lead in the first half within the first four minutes of play. The Lions maintained the lead in the first half at one point leading by as much as 17 points over the Bearcats. At halftime, McKendree trailed Lindenwood 54-40.
The Bearcats recorded 61 points in the second half, shooting 67.65 percent from the field goal range, 75 percent from behind the three point line, and went nine for 10 from the free throw line. McKendree opened the second half with a seven point unanswered run in the first two minutes of the half to begin its comeback. Eight minutes into the half, the Bearcats pulled within one of the Lions. Lindenwood pulled away once more but McKendree answered back and took the lead with four minutes remaining.
The lead changed back and forth amongst the Bearcats and the Lions numerous times with McKendree sitting atop 101-98 with 12 seconds to go. The Lions were able to force overtime with a three-point basket as time expired in regulation.
Lindenwood scored first in the overtime period and maintained the lead for the first two and a half minutes until freshman guard
Aleksandar Davitkov (/Partizan) drained a three-pointer to take back the lead for the Bearcats. Once McKendree took the lead, it never lost it going on to win the game 121-116 in overtime.
Senior guard
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) recorded a career high 39 points in the overtime win to power the McKendree offense alongside 10 rebounds to earn his second double-double of the season. Kohrmann also lead the team in assists with seven on the night.
Four other Bearcats tallied double-digit points to push McKendree to victory. Junior guard
Oliver Stephen (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) collected 21 points, senior guard
Nate Bethel (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Louis Christian Academy) earned 16 points, Davitkov recorded a career high 15 points, and freshman forward
Jakobie Robinson (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) rounded out the efforts with 12 points.
The Bearcats will continue their four game home stand with a game against No. 15 Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
