(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 30) – The McKendree University women's basketball team fell to Lindenwood University 103-74 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) contest in St. Charles, Mo., Thursday night. The Bearcats are now 10-9 overall on the season and 3-8 in conference play.
Competition was close in the first five minutes of play with the Bearcats sitting on top 8-7 with 5:33 remaining in the first quarter. The Lions managed an 11 point unanswered run and eventually garnished a 16 point lead heading into the second quarter. The Bearcats outscored Lindenwood 25-17 in the second quarter to cut the Lions lead to 45-37 at the half.
McKendree cut the lead to three to start the third quarter off a senior guard
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) three-pointer in the first minute of play. The Lions bounced back and took a 19 point lead at the end of the third quarter. Lindenwood retained the lead throughout the fourth quarter to win the game 103-74.
Four Bearcats recorded double-digit points in the loss. Senior guard
Madison Hart (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) led the way with 14 points, Heberg was next with 13 points, sophomore guard
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour) was next with 11, and junior guard
Madison Jones (Abingdon, IL/Abiingdon-Avon) rounded out the efforts with 10 points. Junior guard
Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North) and senior forward
Brianna Johnson (Lodi, WI/Beaver Dam) were also strong offensive players for the Bearcats, each with eight points.
Hart was also the lead rebounder for McKendree with five defensive rebounds on the night. Heberg and senior forward
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) were also top rebounders for the Bearcats, each with an offensive rebound and two defensive rebounds on the night.
McKendree will continue its four-game road stint with a game at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
