(O'FALLON, Ill., Oct. 24) – The McKendree University swimming and diving program hosted Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) member Truman State University at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex for their first dual meet of the season on Friday afternoon. Both the men and women Bearcats swept a majority of the events, leading them to their season's first wins.
The women's final score was 166-120, defeating Truman State.
The meet kicked off with a win in the 200 medley relay. The women's team of freshman
Alexis Kachkin (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South),
Grace Credit (La Grange Highlands, IL/Lyons Township), team captain
Abigail Rumpp (Knoxville, TN/L&N STEM Academy), and
Haley Rey (Columbia, IL/Columbia) posted a time of 1:48.32.
Kachkin also scored a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.41.
Junior
Hallie Dixon (Jeffersonville, IN/Jeffersonville) captured two wins for the Bearcats in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle with the times of 5:11.99 and 10:44.93.
Senior
Victoria Sananikone (Cedar Park, TX/Cedar Park High School) earned first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.94, as well as the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.30.
Freshman
Hope Euler (Centerton, AR/Bentonville West) also made her mark in the 50 freestyle by touching the wall first with a 24.55.
In one meter diving, freshman
Regan Gubera (Jamestown, IN/Western Boone) took first with a score of 228.70.
In three meter diving, senior
Lilia de Oliveira Pelaez (Ile Perrot, Quebec, Canada/Beaconsfield) placed first, scoring 226.70 points.
The meet finished with the 200 freestyle relay where the lady Bearcats captured first place. The women's team of Euler, Rumpp, Kachkin, and Rey finished with a time of 1:37.93.
"The Bearcats always give it their all, and today was no exception. I'm excited to tear it up in the water, race with my teammates, and have a fantastic season" said team captain Abby Rumpp.
Up next in the season, the swimming and diving program will travel to the University of Indianapolis for a dual meet on November 7
th.
