(LEBANON, Ill. – Nov. 27) – The McKendree University women's basketball team is set to open the 2020-21 season, by hosting Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) West Division team Rockhurst University this weekend. The Bearcats will start their season Sunday, Nov. 29 at 1:00 PM.
The Bearcats closed out the 2019-20 season 12-16 with a 5-15 mark in GLVC play. Head Coach
Kari Kerkhoff will have seven lettermen returning, including two starters from last season's squad. Kerkhoff and her staff have added eight newcomers who will look to help the Bearcats make a run to the GLVC Tournament.
Returning to for McKendree is senior guard
Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North). The GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award recipient led the Bearcats with 84 assists and was second in the team in steals, recording 41. Pohlman recorded a season-high 15 points on two separate occasions, including the contest against Tiffin where she recorded a season-best eight assists.
Junior guard
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour) is the Bearcat's leading scorer at 10.1 points per game and free throw percentage, returning from last season's bench. Kraus scored a career-high 36 points against Bellarmine on Jan.9 and went 12-13 in free throws that same contest. She was ranked 10
th in the conference wither her 82.9 free throw percentage and was second on the team with assists (51) and steals (25).

Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community),
Madison Jones (Abingdon, IL/Abiingdon-Avon), and
Erin Stroberg (Rockford, IL/Rockford East).
The strong recruiting class consists of
Lauren Stolzman (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek),
Anna Breuer (Slinger, WI/Slinger),
Christy Fortune (Appleton, WI/Appleton West),
Brilan McCory (Sunan, IN/East Central),
Lindsey Eimers (Peosta, IA/Dubuque),
Christina Himelick (Mishawaka, IN/Marian), and transfer
Ashley Schloer (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon).
McKendree was most recently picked fourth in the East Division in the GLVC preseason poll. This season is split into three divisions, consisting of five teams. Every team will play their divisional opponent twice – home and away – four random non-divisional opponents twice – home and away – and every other non-divisional opponent once.
