(LEBANON, Ill. – Dec. 10) – The McKendree University women's basketball team will continue their road trip this weekend in Evansville, Ind., for an afternoon matchup on Saturday, Dec. 12. That will be followed by the rescheduled matchup against Southwest Baptist University on Monday, Dec. 14, in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
Kari Kerkhoff's team moves to 1-2 on the season with a 1-2 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action after dropping a close 62-68 contest to UIndy, Saturday afternoon. Four Bearcats scored double figures, and as a team shot 46.8 percent from the floor. A three-pointer from
Christy Fortune (Appleton, WI/Appleton West) would tie the game 51-51, followed by another three-pointer from
Erin Golden (Batavia, IL/Batavia) to put the Bearcats ahead 56-54 with 2:20 left in the game. Fortune,
Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North),
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) and
Madison Jones (Abingdon, IL/Abiingdon-Avon) all scored 10 points or better in the contest.
Diekhoff is leading the Bearcats with an average 12.0 points per game, averaging 24.3 in shooting percentage.
Jones is leading the pack in average free throws with an 87.5 percentage (7-for-8) this season.
Fortune is averaging 8.0 points per game with a 52.9 shooting percentage as a first-year Bearcat. She is also averaging 80.0 from the free throw line and 25.0 percent in three-point attempts in her first three games.

The Screaming Eagles lead the East Division in the GLVC, with a 4-0 overall and 4-0 conference record. The screaming eagles rallies back from a nine-point deficit late in the third quarter, to beat Lewis University 63-52. USI outscored the Flyers 31-11 in the final 16 minutes of the game to keep their undefeated record. Leading in scoring for the Screaming Eagles was Emma DeHart, who scored 14 points, seven of them coming in the final quarter. She was followed by sophomores Tara Robbe who scored 10 points, and Hannah Haithcock who scored a game and career-high 13 points.
ABOUT SOUTHWEST BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
The Bearcats dropped their first contest of the 2020-21 season, 59-93 to Drury. The Bearcats, not 0-1 (0-1 in GLVC) finished the contest with three players in double figures. Megan Worthington led her team with 13 points, Brodi Byrd finished with 12 points, and Brylee Graddy added 10 points and four rebounds. The Bearcats will face Missouri S&T Saturday night before making their way to McKendree for the rescheduled contest from Nov. 27.
