Men’s Volleyball Falls to No. 14 Ohio State on the Road

(COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 15) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team droped its final road contest of a three-game road stretch to No. 14 Ohio State, 3-0. The Bearcats are now 7-6 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA).

McKendree dropped the opening set 25-20 as it couldn't stop the Buckeyes offense which hit .542 percent in the set. The Bearcats pushed Ohio State into extra points in the third set but ultimately fell 29-27. The Buckeyes were able to pick up the sweep with a 25-23 win in a close third set matchup.

Junior outside hitter Patrick Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) led either team in kills with 15 in the three set match, ahead of the top Ohio State attacker by one kill. Junior middle blocker Wyatt Dimke (Ham Lake, MN/Blaine) was also a strong offensive force for the Bearcats with seven kills on 14 attempts with just one error for the highest hitting percentage on the team at .429.

Freshman libero Francisco Comas (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley High School), sophomore setter Ryan Serrano (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek), and senior opposite Zach Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) ran the back line for McKendree. Comas collected nine digs to lead the team, Serrano was next with eight, and Schnittker was close behind with seven. Dimke was the lone Bearcat to record a block in the match with a single block solo in the second set.
