Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (HARROGATE, Tenn., Feb. 15) – The McKendree University softball team defeated Cedarville University 10-4 and fell to Ohio Dominican 5-7. The Bearcats are now 1-3 on the season.
 
The Bearcats bested the Yellowjackets through seven innings of play, which was highlighted by exemplary batting from junior Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington High School) who iced the game with a grand slam in the fifth inning, putting the game out of reach for Cedarville. The 10-4 victory was McKendree's first of the season.
 
The Bearcats got on the board first over the Panthers, when Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg High School) singled into center field and allowing Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) to advance and Paige Hayden (Independence, MO/Fort Osage High School) to score on a throwing error. The Panthers dominated the second inning when they ran in six girls. Hayden would score again in the third inning, but the Panthers would answer right back with another run of their own. Hayden was not done for the night, as she hit a solo homerun into right field in the fifth inning. Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame High Shcool) would score on a wild pitch in the sixth inning and Shelby Sumner would add the final fifth run for the Bearcats in the seventh inning. The Panthers kept a big enough lead to secure their 7-5 victory over the Bearcats.
 
Softball will continue action in Harrogate tomorrow, Feb. 16, as they take on hosts Lincoln Memorial at 9:00 A.M., followed by the Panthers of Ohio Dominican once more at 11:30 A.M.
