(O'FALLON, Ill., Feb. 15) – The McKendree University women's hockey team shutout both games of the two game series against Miami University (OH), securing a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The victory pushes the Bearcats to 12-9-1-1 overall on the season.
McKendree broke the series scoring shutout with six minutes remaining in the opening period. Senior
Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) fired a shot from the left circle to beat the RedHawk netminder. The power-play goal was set up by sophomore
Kayla Waldbillig (West Kelowna, BC, Canada/Mount Boucherie Secondary School) and senior
Jana Garrow (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny). Once again, the Bearcats showed their defensive prowess, allowing no goals on seven shots after the first period.
The Bearcats added an insurance goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the second period after junior
Laurynn Davey (Owens Cross Roads, AL/Huntsville High School) netted an unassisted goal. Despite having 10 shots on net, Miami was turned away by sophomore goalie
Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School).
The RedHawks were locked down in the third period, putting only two shots in net. McKendree held on to take a 2-0 victory.
Leasck totaled 19 saves in the winning effort.
The Bearcats will be back in action for their final home series next weekend, Feb. 21-22 as they host Robert Morris University (IL) to the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
