Box Score 2 (ROSEMONT, Ill., - Feb. 21) – The McKendree University softball team completed day two of the Lewis University tournament with two wins over University of Findlay (8-1) Friday morning and Ashland University (3-2) Friday afternoon.
The Bearcats had a successful weekend at the Lewis University Tournament, going 3-1 and putting them at an overall 4-6 record.
McKendree dominated their first contest of the day over University of Findlay as they were the first on the board.
Kelsey Sachs (Troy, MO/Troy Buchanan High School) had a single and then later scored in the second inning, giving the Bearcats the 1-0 lead. In the sixth inning,
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) hit a single to bring
Taylor Lowry (New Burnside, IL/Vienna High School) in for another run, followed by a two RBI single from
Paige Hayden (Independence, MO/Fort Osage High School) to further extend the Bearcats lead 8-1.
Makenzie Carter (Anna, IL/Anna-Jonesboro Community High School) got the win, only giving up one run, two hits and striking out six players in six innings.
In their second contest of the day, McKendree took an early lead over Ashland.
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame High Shcool) led off for the Bearcats and later scored in the first inning, giving her team the early 1-0 lead. Ashland would come back to take the 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning. There, Hayden would hit a single to allow T. Lowry and C. Lowry to take back the 3-2 lead.
Emily Mudd (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro High School) started the second game and gave up two runs on five hits in five innings. Gajewski came into the game to throw for the final two innings and took the win.
McKendree will take the field in their home at Bearcats Field on Saturday, Feb. 28. The first pitch against Minnesota-Moorhead will be at 12:00 P.M., followed by their second game at 2:00 P.M.
