(LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 29) – The McKendree University men's basketball team defeated Bellarmine University 94-83 in its final regular season contest of the season. The Bearcats are now 15-13 overall on the season and 10-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
The Bearcats and the Knights were slow to get the game going in the first half with the Bearcats holding a one point lead 12-11 eight minutes into the half. McKendree pulled away and took a seven point lead but the Knights pulled within two. The Bearcats then shot to another large lead, eight points ahead of Bellarmine 26-18, with seven minutes left to play in the first half. McKendree remained strong and took a six point lead heading into halftime 44-38.
McKendree's offense was just as strong in the second half as the Bearcats put up 50 points to claim the 94-83 victory over the Knights. As a team, McKendree shot 56 percent from field goal range, 62.5 percent at the three point line, and 89.47 percent from behind the free throw line in the second half alone.
Five Bearcats collected double-digit points in the win with senior guard
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) leading the team with 28 points in the game. Senior forward
Nate Bethel (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Louis Christian Academy) was next for McKendree with 15 points, freshman forward
Jakobie Robinson (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) followed with 13 points, sophomore guard
Aleksandar Davitkov (/Partizan) was next with 12 points, and junior guard
Jacob Donaldson (Effingham, IL/Effingham) rounded out the efforts with 11 points.
Bethel and freshman forward
Bryson Bultman (Nashville, IL/Nashville) led the team in rebounds, each with six on the day. Robinson was also a strong rebounder for McKendree with four rebounds in the game. Robinson was also the team leader in blocks collecting two in the game for the Bearcats.
