(LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 29) – The McKendree University women's basketball team fell in its final regular season contest at Bellarmine 88-59. The Bearcats are now 12-16 overall and 5-15 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
Bellarmine garnished an early lead in the first quarter and held onto that momentum throughout the game tallying four consecutive quarters with 20+ points. The Bearcats and the Knights had similar shooting percentages in the first half but Bellarmine was just able to get more shots up to take a 44-28 lead at the half.
The Bearcats recorded their best quarter to start the second half recording 16 points in the third quarter but the Knights kept the pressure high scoring 21 points of their own. McKendree put up 15 points in the fourth quarter but Bellarmine held a commanding lead that was insurmountable. The Bearcats ended up falling 88-59.
Three Bearcats tallied double-digit points for McKendree in the game. Senior guard
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) led the way with 16 points, junior guard
Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North) followed suit with 14 points, and freshman guard
Kaelyn Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) was close behind with 13 points for the Bearcats. Pohlman was also the team leader in assists with four on the day.
Defensively, senior forward
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) led the team in rebounds with six. Senior guard
Madison Hart (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) and senior forward
Shayli Florine (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg) were also strong rebounders for McKendree, each with five rebounds in the game.
