(LEBANON, Ill. – Jan. 23) – The McKendree University men's basketball team finished their two-game road series at Quincy University, Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats would drop the contest, 69-75.
Oliver Stephen (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) would start the way for the Bearcats, as he answered back from the Quincy three-pointer on the opposite end. The scoring pace would slow from that point for the Bearcats. Halfway through the first half, the Bearcats found themselves trailing by nine, cutting down their once biggest deficit of 12. The Bearcats would go on a 10-0 run to get within two, with five and a half minutes in the first half. The Bearcats would trail by five heading into halftime.
Bryson Bultman (Nashville, IL/Nashville) worked his way through under the net to get the Bearcats their first set of points, nearly four minutes into the second half. The momentum began to shift in favor of the Bearcats, as they cut their deficit down to four with 10 minutes left in the game. The Bearcats were 34.4 percent from the floor and 79.2 percent from the free throw line.
Chris Foster's team had two players end in double-figures.
Alijah Thomas (Des Moines, IA/Hoover) went 5-for-11 from the floor, 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and tallies 17 points.
Bryson Bultman (Nashville, IL/Nashville) added 16 points on the afternoon, going 6-for-6 in free throws and 38.5 percent from the floor.
In the first four minutes of play, three of the five three-pointers made came from Quincy. They established a frantic defense and capitalized on their offensive set. After not scoring for nearly three minutes, the Hawks would answer a 0-10 run from the Bearcats with a three pointer and push their lead to six. The lead would pick right back up again in the beginning of the second half, extending to as many as 12.
Quincy had three players finish in double-figures, led by Charles Callier with 23 points. He was followed by Jamaurie Coakley wo tallies 13 points, and was 38.5 percent from the floor. Silas Crisler was 50.0 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc, for a total 10 points.
McKendree will be back in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center for their next contest, with William Jewell College. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 at 3:00 PM.
