(LEBANON, Ill. Jan. 26) – The McKendree University women's basketball team will open a two-game homestand after playing on the road for their past three competitions. McKendree will host Truman State on Thursday, Jan. 28 followed by William Jewell on Saturday, Jan. 30.
Kari Kerkhoff and her team have not played in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center since Jan. 9. In their most recent competition, the Bearcats dropped a close contest with Quincy, 63-68. McKendree and Quincy were close throughout the contest, going basket-for-basket and even holding the two-point lead going into halftime. Their one-possession lead would follow into the final quarter of the game, but Quincy shined in the final two minutes and took the game. McKendree is 4-8 (4-8 in GLVC) heading into their home-court advantage. The Bearcats are averaging 41.0 percent shooting, 30.7 percent from beyond the arc, 71.7 percent from the free throw line, with 8.7 steals per game.
Two Bearcats are averaging in double-figures so far this season.
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) is averaging 12.5 points per game and is 86.0 percent from the free throw line.
Christy Fortune (Appleton, WI/Appleton West) is averaging 12.3 points per game, and is 87.5 percent form free throws and 52.5 percent form field goal range.
About Truman State
The Truman State Bulldogs are 9-5 (9-5 in GLVC) going into Thursday's game. The Bulldogs are coming off a 51-46 win over William Jewell on Saturday, marking their fifth-game winning-streak. Their fire came in the third quarter, where they went on a 9-2 run to push ahead of the Cardinals by four. In the final minutes of the game, the Bulldogs struggled to take back their lead but came though in the final two possessions. Truman State is 45.3 percent shooting on the season, with 32.8 percent from three-point range and 66.8 percent on free throws.
About William Jewell
The Cardinals of William Jewell are5-7 (5-7 in GLVC) so far this season and will face Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday before meeting the Bearcats on Saturday. In the William Jewell's loss to Truman State on Saturday, they got back in the game with under two minutes left in the game with a 5-0 run to get within one. The cardinals tallied 10 offensive rebounds and forced Truman to 17 turnovers. So far this season, William Jewell is averaging 36.7 percent from field goal range, 26.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 74.4 percent from the line.
