Volleyball Opens Midwest Region Crossover With Four-Set Win Over Purdue-Northwest

HAMMOND, Ind. - McKendree University's women's volleyball team improved their record to 5-12 on the season here Friday with their second win over Purdue Northwest on the first day of the Midwest Region Crossover at the Hammond Sportsplex. The Bearcats defeated Purdue-Northwest in four sets (21-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19) on Friday. 

The Bearcats beat the Pride in three sets just over a month ago at the Capital City Classic in Springfield, Ill., before winning in four sets Friday afternoon. 

In the win, McKendree hit .238 against the Pride and amassed a total of 50 kills as senior outside hitter McKenna Ross (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) tallied a season-high 12 kills and hit .478. Along with Ross, sophomore outside hitter Brianna Binder (Littleton, Colo. / Dakota Ridge) added nine kills in the win. Junior setter Macy Tongate (Tawanda, Ill. / Normal University) had 39 of the 43 Bearcats assists. 

Defensively the Bearcats had five players reach double digits in digs as senior libero Skyler Sieber (Naples, Fla. / Montevallo) had a team high 16 digs in the match. Outside/opposite side hitter Colleen Preusser (St. Charles, Mo. / Lutheran) added 14 digs, while Binder and Tongate each had 13 digs a piece. The final player to reach double digits was junior outside hitter Maddie Misner (Makanda, Ill. / Carbondale) had 11 digs. Additionally, McKendree held the Pride to an .019 attack percentage, including a -.111 hitting percentage in the second set.

PNW (1-16 on the season) was paced by nine kills from Riley Kraiza, while Summer Clark also had nine kills and added 13 digs and three of PNW's five aces and Lauren Sanders added eight kills and hit .312 in the loss. 

The Bearcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 16 to conclude the Midwest Region Crossover with matches at 9:30 a.m. against Malone University and at 4:30 p.m. against Tiffin University. The Bearcats beat Tiffin at the Ferris State Invitational earlier this season.
