McKendree University's women's hockey team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 5-1 win over Aquinas College here Friday evening at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex
The Bearcats dominated in the win outshooting Aquinas 42-12 while scoring five goals in the vctory over the Saints.Â
The Bearcats scored at the 17:06 mark in the first period on freshman defender Cassidy Dion (Goodfish Lake, Alberta, Canada/Ashmont School) goal that was assisted by freshman forward Larisa Gorgevska-Sharpe (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Kings Academy) and freshman defender Lainy Stienstra (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Burlington Central) to take a 1-0 lead.Â
The Bearcats would add another goal with 53 seconds remaining in the first period when junior forward Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada/Onanole) scored off of passes from junior winger Quinn Atchinson (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Belmont Secondary School) and junior center Camryn Scully (Prince George, BC, Canada/Prince George Secondary School) to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.Â
Aquinas would cut the lead in half when Morgan Kozar scored 1:40 into the second period.Â
The Bearcats would score the final three goals of the game. At the 13:18 mark of the second period freshman defender Makenna Howe (Revelstoke, BC, Canada/Revelstoke) would score a power play goal with the assists going to Stienstra and Dion. At the 16:51 mark of the second period the Bearcats would build on their lead when freshman forward Kiley Hasenfratz (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/St. Francis) would score off the passes from freshman winger Mya Cobb (Evansville, Ind./Castle) and senior defender Brittany Koch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills) to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.Â
The final Bearcat goal came at the 18:00 mark of the third period when Scully scored off of the Koch and Davis assists. In net, senior goaltender Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) made 11 saves against 12 shots.Â
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 3:30 p.m. as they play host to Lindenwood University. .Â
