FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – The No. 2 ranked McKendree University women's bowling team went a perfect 5-0 on Friday at the first day of the Bearcat Hammer Open held here at the St. Clair Bowl. With a pinfall of 4,675, the Bearcats finished the first day of competition in third place overall.
On Friday, the Bearcats opened with an 882-763 win over North Central College, before picking up a 961-877 win over Aurora University, a 1,012-829 win over 21st-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, a 922-779 win over Carthage College and they ended the first day of action with an 898-751 win over Alabama A&M.
The Bearcats will face No. 1 ranked Nebraska, Kentucky Wesleyan, No. 3 ranked Arkansas State, Carroll (Wis.) and No. 15 ranked Maryville University on Saturday as those teams will play a traditional format beginning at 9 a.m.
In addition to McKendree going 5-0 on Friday, Arkansas State, Aurora, Maryville and Tusculum each went 4-1, while Nebraska and Central Missouri both went 3-2.
Results from Friday and Saturday will determine the seeding for Sunday's bracket. During the championship tournament on Sunday, each team will play best-of-seven Baker matches.
