INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The McKendree University men's saw its run of seven consecutive wins to open the 2021-22 season snapped here Friday afternoon as the fourth-ranked Bearcats fell 205-95 in a dual meet at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center to top-ranked University of Indianapolis.
In Friday's meet against the Greyhounds, the Bearcats won three events, has eight runner-up finishes and three third place finishes and recorded four season best times in suffering its first loss of the season. UIndy improved to 3-0 on the season.
McKendree's events wins came in three individual events with sophomore
Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo), graduate student
Xander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans) and freshman
Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis,/Pius XI) each finishing in first place.
Pinheiro took home first place in the 200 breaststroke as he swam a McKendree season best time of 1:56.58 and that time was an NCAA 'B' cut time. In addition, he also finished second in the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA 'B' cut time and a McKendree season best time of 53.74.
Skinner posted an NCAA 'B' time of 1:40.27 in the 200 freestyle to finish in first place. Skinner defeated his teammate, freshman
Alireza Yavari (Isfahan, Iran/Shayestegan), who placed second with a time of 1:41.72.
Lustig took home first place in the 200 butterfly with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:49.51, and also tied for second in the 100 butterfly with senior
Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) with times of 49.60.
Junior
DaVante Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Queens College) took home second place in the 100 backstroke with a Bearcat season best time of 49.31 and also swam the lead leg on McKendree's second place 200 medley relay team that recorded a season best time of 1:28.67. The other members of the medley relay team were Pinheiro, Lichinsky and junior
Caleb Law (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service).
McKendree's other relay team also finished second on Friday as the 200 freestyle team posted a time of 1:21.51 to finish in second place. The members of that relay team were Skinner, Law, Lichinsky and
Taras Zherebetskyy (Alghero, Italy/ITS Angelo Roth).
Senior
Charlie Fraser-Allen (London, England/Highgate Wood Secondary) was second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:44.38.
Lichinsky placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.79, while Zherebetskyy was third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46:03.
The final third place finish came in 1-meter diving as senior
Ethan Larson (Anchorage, Alaska/Paidaie Cooperative) recorded a score of 254.03.
The Bearcats will return to the pool on Nov. 18-20 as they compete in the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
