The McKendree University women's hockey team hosted Lindenwood University on Friday night at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex. The Bearcats were defeated 2-1 by the Lions.
Lindenwood opened the scoring with a goal with seven minutes left in the first period. The Bearcats would answer the Lions goal with one of their own with just 40 seconds left on the clock in the first period.
Jaynee Smothers (Buckner, MO/Fort Osage) was able to find the back of the net after a pass from
Camryn Scully (Prince George, BC, Canada/Prince George Secondary School) and
Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada/).
After back-and-forth play in the second period, Lindenwood would recapture the lead with a goal with only seconds left on the clock. That late goal would eventually be the game-winner as the Bearcats were unable to tie the score in the final period.
Junior goalie
Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School) was solid in goal stopping 41 shots for McKendree.
With the loss McKendree drops to 1-4 on the year. The Bearcats will return to the ice on March 3
rd at Maryville University.
