The McKendree University baseball team lost its season opener to Winona State by a score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in O'Fallon, Ill.

How it Happened
The Bearcats struck first in the second inning when junior
Corey Price (Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial) swiped third and then advanced home following a wild pitch by Winona to give then Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
It was all the Warriors from that point on, with Winona adding two runs in the third inning off a pair of singles to take a 2-1 lead. After that, the Warriors added another pair of runs in the fifth inning and a final run in the eighth.
Senior
Andrew Yancik (Glen Carbon, IL/Edwardsville) suffered his first loss of the young season while throwing 4.1 innings and surrendering five hits for the Bearcats.
