The McKendree University men's rugby team defeated the Sunday Morning Rugby Club for it's first wins in program history.

"I feel very blessed that we finally had a chance to play rugby," said head coach Joe Lippert. "Sunday Morning Rugby Club came out with a lot of guys and it felt great to finally be out there"

In game one, the Bearcats dismantled Sunday Morning Rugby Club by a score 27-0. The first try in program history was recorded by Peyton Siepert (Rigby, Idaho/Rigby High School), but McKendree failed to convert the conversation attempt. McKendree also got production from senior Ayemere Oiyemhonlan (Hercules, CA/Deer Valley) and freshman Andre Greenup (Round Rock, Texas/Stony Point High School).

"The new guys really stepped up, some of our freshman put some points on the board," said Lippert.

Game two was another triumph for the Bearcats, winning 19-14. Tyler Mahler (Cabot, IL./Catholic High School) started for the Bearcats and got some help from Siepert to give the Bearcats a 12-7 going into the half.

The Sunday Morning Rugby Club took their only lead of the day out of halftime, but McKendree took the lead right back, after Greenup scored on a breakaway, and Sam Griffey (Maumelle, AR/Central Arkansas Christian) scored on a conversation to seal game two for the Bearcats.

Game three was a decisive 21-0 win that included an interception by Siepert on the final try of the half.

The Bearcats return to Leemon Field for another scrimmage against the Royal Rambler Rugby Club, which is slated for a 1p.m on March 6^th.
