(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb. 9) – The McKendree University women's basketball team is back in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center for its scheduled contests this week. They will host Drury on Thursday, Feb. 11, followed by Missouri S&T on Saturday, Feb. 13. Both games will be the second matchup of the season for
Kari Kerkhoff's team.
McKendree moved to 6-10 (6-10 in GLVC), after defeated Southwest Baptist on the road, 72-62. The Bearcats opened the contest with an explosive momentum carried over from the win against Rockhurst, just two days before. Another surge near the final five minutes of the game, pushed McKendree to victory. Heading into this week, the Bearcats are averaging 41.7 percent from the field, 30.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.0 percent from the free throw line. The have closed the scoring margin to just 3.4 points behind their opponent, and lead in steals with an average 7.9.
About Drury
Drury is 11-1 (11-1 in GLVC) heading into this week of competition. Their most recent game was an 80-72 win over Lindenwood, after their 42-game winning streak was broke by Rockhurst on Tuesday, Feb. 2. In their game against Lindenwood, the teams went back-and-forth in scoring streaks, and closing the gap to seven points heading into halftime. Drury is averaging a 26.1 scoring margin over their opponent this season, going 47.4 percent from the floor, 34.6 percent from three-point range, and 74.1 percent from the free throw line.
In the previous meeting between McKendree and Drury on Jan. 6, Drury opened the new year with the 96-62 win.
About Missouri S&T
Missouri S&T will start this week of competition at 3-13 (3-13 in GLVC). The recently dropped a close contest with Lindenwood, 72-80. An and-one play would put the miners up by three, followed by a three-pointer from the Lions at the other end of the court, to send the game tied at 31 into halftime. The game came down to free throws, where Lindenwood would take over. The Miners are averaging 44.3 percent form the field, 36.4 percent from the arc, and 73.2 percent from the free throw line. The Miners will face Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday, before heading to McKendree on Saturday.
In the previous meeting between McKendree and Missouri S&T on Dec. 12, the Bearcats recorded their first win of the season, 62-55.
