The McKendree University women's soccer team won the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Regular Season Championship with a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Indiana on Friday.
 
How It Happened
The game's lone goal was scored by Danielle Knutson at the 11^th minute. The assist came from Emma Knoebel. The goal is Knutson's second of the season, and second of her career, while the assist was Knoebel's fourth of the season.
 
The second half saw strong defensive play by the Bearcats. Goalkeeper Abby Tucker came up with huge saves at the games 73^rd and 82^nd minute. 
 
The win improves the Bearcats record to 11-2-1 on the season, finishing the year with 34 points.

The Screaming Eagles outshot the Bearcats 15 to 11 on the day. Of those 15 shots for the Screaming Eagles, four were on goal, while seven of the Bearcats 11 shots were on goal.
 
In net, Tucker racked up four saves and earns her second shutout of the season.

"Defensively, we had to go in there and kill the game off, and that's exactly what we did," head coach Tim Strange said. "It's a great effort by all of our players. They worked their backsides off, like they always do, and put in 110 percent. We're regular season champions, so our players are very excited about the accomplishment."
