The McKendree University women's volleyball team had its second matchup with No.1 Lewis University, Friday evening in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The Bearcats stayed close with the Flyers throughout the match but fell in a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-21).
McKendree committed very minimal mistakes in the opening set with No.1 Lewis, playing through long rallies and utilizing their offense. The Flyers' pin hitters were more successful in finding the open court and holes in the Bearcat's defense. The Flyers took the opening set 25-18.
The Bearcat came out hot in the second set, to take an early 5-2 lead. Flyers got the score back even from back-to-back errors by the Bearcats, and ignite a 5-2 run to take a lead. The Flyers' heave blocking helped them to the 25-19 second set win.
The Bearcats' defense struggled to pick up the off-speed shots from the Flyers' pin hitters. A kill by
Maddie Misner sparked a five-point run by her team to get within one, and force their opponent into a timeout. The Flyers would hold onto their lead for the 25-21 set win, and the match 3-0.
The Bearcats recorded 33 kills for a .171 hitting percentage.
Alexandria Muschong led the Bearcats' offense with seven kills, also adding one block.
Maddie Misner also recorded seven kills, along with one assist and 11 digs.
Gracie Marr recorded 29 assists with one service ace.
Amanda Tippett led the defense with 15 digs, wile
Claire Diercks had two blocks.
Nickie Sanlin and her team will take the court for the final time this regular season on Saturday, Apr. 3. McKendree's first serve against the University of Illinois-Springfield is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
