Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Opens Weekend at UMSL

The McKendree University baseball team dropped to 13-20, and 6-19 in conference play, following two losses to the University of Missouri, St. Louis Tritons by scores of 6-0 and 2-3.

The Tritons would strike first in game one when they put up one run in the third. McKendree would threaten in their half of the third inning with runners on second and third, but UMSL would get out of the inning by making the Bearcats ground into a double play.

The Tritons added two more runs in the fifth, seventh and one run in the eighth inning and would manage to keep the Bearcats off the base paths.

Jared Timmerman would suffer his second loss of the year after throwing his third straight complete game while giving up six hits and punching out six.

The Tritons would again strike first in the later half of the doubleheader, taking a 2-0 lead after a two-run second inning. McKendree would answer in the fourth inning when Brent Timmons brought home Corey Price on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to one run.

McKendree would tie the game at two in the following inning when Bryce Emery drove in Deion Tubbs for his 21ed RBI of the 2021 campaign.

UMSL would regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and would keep McKendree off the board in the seventh to hang on.

Logan Boente would drop to 2-3 after 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.

McKendree and UMSL conclude their series tomorrow, May 1st, with another double header in St. Louis, Mo, with first pitch in game one scheduled for noon.
