The McKendree University softball team defeated Lewis 1-0 on the first day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament in East Peoria.
 
The Bearcats will take on Drury tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the winner's bracket in East Peoria.
 
How It Happened
 
The games lone run was scored by Abby Behlmann off a solo home run to centerfield in the fourth inning. 
 
Ellie Quaethem was two outs away from pitching a no hitter, but Lewis got its first hit of the game with one out in the top of the seventh inning. 
 
Quaethem was taken out of the game after giving up the hit, and Miranda Gajewski would strike out the final two outs of the game.
 
Behind The Boxscore
 
Quaethem pitched in 6 1/3 innings, allowed zero runs off one hit and struck out eight batters. She earned her 11^th win of the season.
 
Gajewski was credited with her third save of the season, and picked up two strikeouts in the process.
