Men's Tennis Adds Five New Recruits to 2021-22 Roster

LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree University men's tennis coach René Vidal has announced the addition of five recruits for the 2021-22 school year.
 
Vidal, who is entering his second season as the Bearcat tennis coach, added a graduate senior transfer, a junior transfer, two sophomore transfers and a freshman to his program, that went 9-6 during the 2020-21 season and earned an ITA season-high national ranking of No. 50.
 
McKendree's new recruits are graduate transfer Boriss Kamdem from the University of Tulsa, junior Lorenzo del Biondo, a transfer from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, sophomore Nanase Ebisu, a transfer from Hawai'i Pacific University, sophomore Charlie Sanzo, a transfer from Fullerton College and freshman David Leon Mantilla, who is from Lima, Peru.
 
"We are excited to have Boriss, Lorenzo, Nanese, Charlie and David join the McKendree Tennis family," Vidal said. "Each of these guys bring an incredible amount of maturity, character and competitive success to our program. This is the next step toward our ultimate goal of winning a national championship."
 
Kamdem, who was a four-year letterman at the University of Tulsa and graduated with Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, was ranked as high as No. 25 in 2018-19. In his four years with the Golden Hurricane, Kamdem, who is a native of Ghent, Belgium, won 66 overall matches in singles and doubles, including winning 38 doubles matches. In 2018-19, went 20-13 in doubles and was 14-15 in singles and posted a 28-43 career record in singles and went 38-40 in doubles. Played Davis Cup tennis for the national team of Cameroon.
 
Del Biondo, who lettered from 2019-21 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., was ranked as high as No. 12 in singles in the NJCAA during the 2020-21 season and advanced to the second round of the NJCAA Division I National Championships. Originally from Pescara, Italy, he graduated from Centennial C.V.I. High School in Guelph, Ontario, Canada in 2018.  In high school, he was the Team MVP as a junior and was an Ontario Scholar in the classroom.
 
Ebisu was a two-year member of the men's tennis team at Hawai'i Pacific University and is originally from Osaka, Japan. In high school at Kamimura Gakuen, Ebisu was a four-year letterman and was an Osaka Regional Champion in doubles as a junior and placed in the Top 8 in singles at the West Japan Championships and was in the Top 32 in singles at Nationals as a senior.
 
Sanzo played both singles and doubles tennis at Fullerton College from 2018-20 for Coach Yolanda Duron. Prior to attending Fullerton College, Sanzo, who is a native of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, England, prepped at Colston's Collegiate School. In his four years playing for Colston's, he was the No. 1 player for the team and was a back-to-back Avon U18 Doubles Champion as both a sophomore and junior.
 
Mantilla arrives at McKendree after being a four year prep playing career at Colegio Parroquial Santa Rosa de Lima in Lima, Peru. He is currently ranked 950 in the ITF Junior Rankings and achieved a career-high ranking of 808 in May of 2021. He has posted an overall singles record of 6-9 in singles and is 4-3 in doubles in juniors.
