Men's Tennis Posts 6-0 Home Win Over Quincy

TROY, Ill. – The McKendree men's tennis team opened the home portion of its 2021-22 season here Tuesday afternoon as the Bearcats picked up a 6-0 victory over Quincy University in a non-conference match at Triad High School.

Tuesday's match began with doubles action as the Bearcats earned the doubles point by taking two of the three matches to earn the point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In doubles, the Bearcats No. 1 team of Leonardo Frederico (Tijucas-Santa Cantrina, Brazil/UniCesumar) and graduate student Boriss Kamdem (Ghent, Beligium/University of Tulsa) won 6-0 over Ettore Pavesi and Zach Willing and the No. 3 team of sophomore Subash Paramasivan (Chennai, India/Saraswathi Kendra) and junior Ryan Fung (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) won 7-5 over Erik Weiler and Brenden Everhart.

The Hawks prevented a sweep in doubles by the Bearcats as Samuele Contestabile and Sebastian Gomez picked up a 7-6 (7-4) win in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles over McKendee's tandem of sophomore Nanase Ebisu (Osaka, Japan/Hawai'i Pacific) and junior Lorenzo del Biondo (Pescora, Italy/Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College).

Following the completion of the doubles matches, the players turned their focus to singles and the Bearcats won all five singles matches that were completed in straight sets to clinch the match win. The No. 6 singles match between del Biondo and Gomez was not completed as del Biondo had won the first set 6-3 and was leading 2-1 when the match was halted.

In singles play, the Bearcats lost a total of 20 games across the six matches played in improving to 2-0 on the season.

Frederico picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Pavesi, while sophomore Julappagari Anurag Reddy (Dubai, UAE/CBSE School Nationals) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles over Contestabile.

Kamdem won by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores at the No. 3 spot over Weiler.

Ebisu won 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot over Francisco Nique and freshman David Leon Mantilla (Lima, Peru/Colegio Parroquial Santa Rose de Lima) defeated Everhart in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.

The Bearcats will be back in action this coming weekend (Sept. 16-18) as they compete in an ITA Fall Circuit event presented by Universal Tennis at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center at Forest Park in St. Louis, Mo.
