ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The McKendree University men's tennis team had seven players competing this past weekend at the 2021 ITA Fall Circuit that was held at Forest Park's Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
 
McKendree had five players competing in the Top 32 bracket, while two more players competed in the Next 32 bracket. The Bearcat men that competed in the Top 32 bracket were sophomore Nanase Ebisu (Osaka, Japan/Hawai'i Pacific), junior Leonardo Frederico (Tijucas-Santa Cantrina, Brazil/UniCesumar), graduate student Boriss Kamdem (Ghent, Beligium/University of Tulsa), sophomore Subash Paramasivan (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India/Saraswathi Kendra) and sophomore Julappagari Anurag Reddy (Dubai, UAE/CBSE School Nationals), while the two Bearcats that competed in the Next 32 Bracket were sophomore Diego Castillo Samperio (Guadalajara, Mexico/Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey) and sophomore Fabian Martinez Camargo (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Agustiniano Ciudad Salitre).
 
Overall, the contingent of McKendree players posted a combined record of 12-9, including Kamdem taking home the title in the Top 32 bracket as he did not drop a set en route to going 5-0.
 
Kamdem opened the event with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the Round of 32 over Purushotham Koduri of Plano, Texas, before picking up a 6-3, 6-3 win in the Round of 16 over Noah Becker of Little Rock, Ark. And then earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Maryville's Juan Suero Perez Frade. In the semifinals, Kamdem won 7-6 (4), 6-2 over Abhimanyu Ramireddy of Washington University in St. Louis and then earning the title with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over SLUH's Gus Tettamble.
 
Frederico and Reddy each went 2-1 as they advanced to the quarterfinal round.
 
Frederico opened the event with a 6-2, 6-3 win over WashU's Sam Komis, before earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over Maryville's Sebastian Trigosso in the Round of 16 and then fell in a third-set tiebreaker in the quarterfinals to Daniel Li of Atlanta, Ga. Frederico won the first set, 6-2, before falling 6-4 in the second set and then Li won the tiebreaker by a score of 10-7.
 
Reddy would begin play with a win by default in the Round of 32 over Peter Anastaskis of Bradenton, Fla., before earning a third-set tiebreaker win in the Round of 16 over Maryville's Mario Aleksic, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-6 and then being forced to retire after losing 6-1 in the first of the quarterfinals against Tettamble.
 
Paramasivan went 1-1 as he picked up a Round 32 win over Otterbein's Brandon Wall and then fell 6-3, 6-3 to Noah Becker of Little Rock, Ark., in the Round of 16.
 
Ebisu would finish the event with a 2-2 record as he advanced to the semifinals of the singles back draw after losing in the Round of 32 to Li, 6-0, 6-3. In the consolation Round of 16, Ebisu picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Principia's Daniel Gomez, before earning a 6-3, 6-3 win in the Consolation quarterfinals over Thomas Nelson of Jacobs High School. Ebisu would conclude play with a 6-2, 6-2 loss in the semifinal round to WashU's Jared Phillips, who won the consolation back draw title.
 
Meanwhile, Camargo and Samperio each went 0-2 in the Next 32 bracket.
 
Carmargo opened with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Jose Hernandez Saracho of Lewis & Clark Community College in the Round of 32 and then fell 6-2, 6-0l in the consolation back draw Round of 16 to Arnau Gannavaram of Lee's Summit, Mo., while Samperio lost 6-2, 6-1 in the Round of 63 to Washu"s Henri Ohl and then suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss in the consolation back draw Round of 16 to Sam Skansa of Victoria, Minn., who would win the consolation back draw with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Gannavaram.
 
The Bearcats will continue its fall season next weekend (Sept. 25-27) as they travel to Allendale, Mich., to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
