O'FALLON, Ill. – The McKendree University men's swimming and diving team improved to 8-1 this season in dual meets here Friday afternoon as the fifth-ranked Bearcats picked up a 178-100 win over sixth-ranked Lindenwood University in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
In Friday's meet against the Lions, the Bearcats won 12 of 16 events overall and had seven second place finishes and recorded three NCAA 'B' times.
Five Bearcats won multiple events against Lindenwood, including sophomore
Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo) and graduate student
Xander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans) each won three events, whole senior
Kenneth Glidden (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/Triple C School), freshman
Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) and freshman
Patryk Rozenek (Radlin, Poland/Zsoms Raciborz) each won two events.
Pinheiro's three events wins came in the 100 breaststroke (55.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:02.37) and was the second leg on the winning 400 medley relay team that posted a time of 3:20.54. The other members of the 400-medley relay team were Rozenek, Skinner and senior
Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley).
The other Bearcat to win three events was Skinner, who along with being on the 400-medley relay team, he also won the 200 freestyle with an NCAA 'B' time of 1:39.58 and the 100 freestyle in a time of 44.71.
Glidden's two event wins came at both 1 and 3-meter diving as he won the 1-meter diving with a score of 137.69 and the 3-meter with a score of 143.17.
Lustig's two wins came in the 100 butterfly (49.22) and 200 butterfly (1:49.03). He was also the second place 400 medley relay team that recorded a time of 3:22.45. The other members of the 'B' medley relay team were freshman
Emilio Perez (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield), senior
Garrett Schrock (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) and senior
Taras Zherebetskyy (Alghero, Italy/ITS "Angelo Roth").
In addition to the 400-medley relay, Rozenek was also first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.56.
The other event winners on Friday were senior
Charlie Fraser-Allen (London, England/Highgate Wood Secondary) in the 1,650 freestyle (16:21.27), while Perez won the 50 freestyle in an NCAA 'B' time of 20.13.
The other NCAA 'B' time was turned in by Lichinsky in the 50 freestyle as he was second with a time of 20.41.
Freshman
Alireza Yavari (Isfahan, Iran/Shayestegan) finished second in the 100 freestyle with a career best time of 45.80. Yavari was also second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.76.
Pinheiro, Schrock, Lustig and senior
Macoy Neinas (Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Southern Door) went second, third, fourth and seventh in the 200 IM. Pinheiro recorded a time of 1:53.60, while Schrock posted a time of 1:54.98, Lustig swam a time of 1:57.43 and Neinas posted a time of 2:04.91.
The Bearcats also had the Top 3 spots in the 100 butterfly as along with Lustig's first place finish, Perez was second with a time of 49.27 and Lichinsky was third with a time of 49.83.
The Bearcats will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 21 as they host UMSL for an 11 a.m. Senior Day dual meet at the McKendree Rec Plex pool.
