O'FALLON, Ill. – The McKendree University men's swimming and diving team concluded the regular season here Saturday by turning in numerous strong performances in a dual meet against the University of Missouri at the McKendree Rec Plex Pool.
Missouri, who is ranked ninth in NCAA Division I, won the meet by a score of 173.5 to 113.5 over the Division II fifth-ranked Bearcats.
In Saturday's meet, the Bearcats won six of 16 events events, including sweeping both relay events, recorded nine NCAA 'B' times and set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke.
Four Bearcats won multiple events against Mizzou as sophomore
Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo), freshman
Emilio Perez (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) and senior
Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley) each won three events, while graduate student
Xander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans) won two events.
Pinheiro's two individual wins came in the 200 breaststroke as he recorded a time of 1:57.24 and was also first in the 100 breaststroke with a school record and NCAA 'B' time of 53.02. The time of 53.02 bettered the old school record of 53.21 set by Pinheiro at this year's Purdue Invitational.
Pinheiro was also the second leg on McKendree's winning 200 medley relay team that recorded an NCAA 'B' time of 1:26.56. Other members of the relay team were Perez, Lichinsky and Skinner.
McKendree's 200 freestyle relay team also won their event against Mizzou as they recorded a time of 1:19.14 win the event. The members of the 200-freestyle relay team were Perez, Skinner, Lichinsky and junior
Caleb Law (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service).
Along with his two relay wins, Perez also captured an individual event title in the 100 freestyle with an NCAA 'B' time of 43.86.
Lichinsky also took home an individual event win along with his two relay wins and he was first in the 50 freestyle in an NCAA 'B' time of 19.91. He also posted an NCAA 'B' time in the 100 butterfly as he finished second in the event with a time of 47.51.
Along with Lichinsky's NCAA 'B' time in the 50 freestyle, two other Bearcats recorded NCAA 'B' times in the 50 freestyle as Perez was second with a time of 19.95 and Law was third with a time of 20.07.
Skinner posted a season best and NCAA 'B' time in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.00 as he finished second overall in the event, while he tied for second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.25.
Freshman
Filip Cigic (Zabreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija) was third in the 1,000 freestyle with an NCAA 'B' time of 9:26.88.
Senior
Kenneth Glidden (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/Triple C School) was second in 3-meter diving (148.35) and third in 1-meter diving (123.38).
With the regular season complete, the Bearcats will now turn its attention to the 2022 GLVC Swimming Championships, which are scheduled for Feb. 9-12 at the Elkhart Health & Aquatics Center in Elkhart, Ind.
