LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The McKendree University women's bowling team went 3-1 on Sunday's second day of the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic hosted by Mount St. Mary's College to remain in second place overall heading into Monday's bracket play round at the South Point Hotel & Casino Bowling Arena.
After 10 games, the No. 2 ranked Bearcats have recorded a total pinfall of 10,598 to sit in second place overall as they only top-ranked Stephen F. Austin, who also went 7-2 in the first two days of action, recorded a total of pinfall of 10,747. The Bearcats are averaging 212.0 per game at the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic.
After playing five Baker games on Saturday, McKendree and the other 12 teams at the event played five traditional games on Sunday as they opened the day with a bye in the first game.
Following the bye, McKendree picked up an impressive win over No. 1 ranked Stephen F. Austin (929-903), before earning a win over its Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Maryville (Mo.) (1,076-994) in the third game. After the win over Maryville, the Bearcats picked up a win over 25th-ranked Monmouth (1,089-928) and then closed the second day of action with a setback to No. 3 ranked Nebraska (1,147-999).
After recording a total pinfall of 5,470 in its five Baker games, the Bearcats recorded a total pinfall of 5,128 in Sunday's traditional games. That was the second highest total behind SFA's 5,228, while Mount St. Mary's was third with a 5,122 pinfall.
Two Bearcats made the Top 15 during Sunday's individual play as the top overall individual was McKendree junior
Kayla Smith (Salem, Ill./Salem) as she recorded a total pinfall on Sunday of 1,146 pins to win by 10 pins over runner-up Carlene Beyer of Stephen F. Austin, who was second with a total pinfall of 1,136. Smith averaged 229.20 in her five games on Sunday and scored over 200 in all five games, including a high game of 275 against Maryville.
In addition to Smith, junior
Rebecca Hagerman (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) was 12th overall as she recorded a total pinfall of 1,033 and averaged 206.60 per game and had three games of 200 or better, including a high game of 233 against Monmouth.
McKendree also had two more players finish inside the Top 25 of the individual standings as junior
Maranda Pattison (Redwood Valley, Calif./Ukiah Independent) was 18th overall with a total pinfall of 1,009 and she averaged 201.80 per game, while senior
Hope Gramly (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) was 25th overall with a pinfall total of 988 as she averaged 197.60 per game. Pattison had three games over 200, including a high of 232 against Maryville and Gramly also bowled over 200 three times with a high of 229 against Monmouth.
With its second-place finish overall, McKendree earned the No. 2 seed in Monday's best-of-seven Baker format bracket play round as they will face No. 1 seeded Stephen F. Austin. Bracket play will begin at 8 a.m. PT and will be streamed live on FloBowling.com ($).
