LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree University men's tennis closed out the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule here Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 exhibition dual meet win over Lewis & Clark Community College at the tennis courts on the McKendree campus.
 
The Bearcats won all seven matches and in the seven matches, they dropped a total of 21 games overall.
 
Saturday's match began with doubles as the Bearcats three doubles teams won 18 of the 21 games played as the No. 2 and No. 3 teams won by 6-0 scores, while the No. 1 team of senior Lorenzo del Biondo (Pescara, Italy/Abraham Baldwin College) and senior Nanase Ebisu (Osaka, Japan/Hawai'i Pacific) won 6-3.
 
At No. 2 doubles, seniors Leonardo Frederico and Ryan Fung (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior) picked up a 6-0 win over L&C's Sibususo Dube and Mlungisi Mhlanga
 
Meanwhile, at No. 3 doubles, freshmen Benedek Szombathelyi (Budapest, Hungary/Hunfalvy Janos Bilingual Vocational School) and Tomas Leston (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Jose Hermanas Nuestra Senora del Rosario) won 6-0 over L&C's Logan Schultz and Viktor Belic.
 
Leading 1-0 in the match after earning the doubles points, the teams turned their attention to singles and in singles, the Bearcats lost a total of 18 games among the six matches. No. 5 and No. 6 singles played only one set.
 
In singles, sophomore Jose Antonio Velasco (Lima, Peru) collected a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot over James Makaranga.
 
At No. 2 singles, Ian Ramiro Perez Rodriguez (Los Cabos, Mexico/SEJV) defeated Davis Rowton, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Sophomore Charlie Sanzo (Bristol, England/Fullerton College) earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Dube, while freshman Aimar Oregui (Hondarribia, Spain/Colego Publico Talaia) won 6-1, 6-3 over Mhlanga at No. 4 singles.
 
Senior Carlos Etty (Eindhoven, Netherlands/Luzac College Eindhoven) and junior Diego Castillo Samperio (Guadalajara, Mexico/Instituto Technologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey) played at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
 
Etty won 6-2 at No. 5 over Schultz, while Castillo Samperio won 6-0 over Belic.
 
The Bearcats will now turn their attention to the spring season which begins on Friday, Feb. 17 with an exhibition match at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill., against Kaskaskia College.
