Men's Swimming Defeats Missouri S&T in Friday's Home Triangular Meet

O'FALLON, Ill. – The McKendree University men's swimming and diving hosted the first and two triangular dual meets this weekend here Friday afternoon with Saint Louis University, Oklahoma Christian and Missouri S&T at the MeKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool.
 
McKendree picked up a 114-34 win over 15th-ranked Missouri S&T, while they outscored SLU, 109-48 and ninth-ranked Oklahoma Christian, 112-35. The Bearcats will conclude its triangular dual meet on Saturday by facing both Saint Louis and Oklahoma Christian beginning at 12 p.m.
 
Against Missouri S&T, the No. 2 ranked Bearcats won all eight events against the Miners to post the win and improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
 
Along with winning all eight events, the Bearcats went 1-2 in two events – 400 medley relay and 100 freestyle.
 
Five Bearcats won multiple events, including sophomore Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) winning two individual events and was the third leg on winning 400 medley relay team.
 
Lustig's first win came in the 400 medley relay as he swam the third leg of the relay that finished in a time of 3:17.08. The other members of the winning relay team were sophomore Patryk Rozenek (Radlin, Poland/Zsoms Raciborz), junior Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo) and fifth-year senior Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley).
 
His next win in the 200 butterfly with an NCAA 'B' Time of 1:45.95 and his third win came in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.25.
 
Rozenek, Pinheiro, and sophomore Arthur Souza (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Saber) were each on a winning relay team and won an individual event, while Lichinsky won both relay events swam on Friday.
 
McKendree began Friday's meet by going 1-2 in the 400 medley relay as the winning team posted a time of 3:17.08, while the 'B' relay team was second with a time of 3:20.38.The members of the 'B' relay team were senior DaVante Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Queens College), senior Caleb Law (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service), sophomore Alireza Yavari (Isfahan, Iran/Shayestegan) and Souza.
 
S&T place fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:25.37.
 
In the next event, the 1,000 freestyle, the Bearcats went second and third overall as freshman Preston Troyer (Dayton, Ohio/Xenia Christian) was second with a time of 9:39.63 and freshman Caden Brooks (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) with a time of 9:48.63. S&T's Martin Melinder was fourth in the event with a time of 9:53.55.
 
Lustig would win the next event – 200 butterfly, while S&T would finish fifth, sixth and seventh overall as Nate Baxter was fifth with a time of 1:56.58, while Connor Bichsel was sixth with a time of 1:56.60 and Gabe Porter was seventh with a time of 1:57.11.
 
Pinheiro would win his lone individual meet on Friday in the 200 breaststroke as he recorded a time of 2:03.11. In addition to Pinheiro, freshman Noah Tague (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) was fourth with a time of 2:08.33, while S&T's Jay Mercer was fifth with a time of 2:08.50.
 
Souza and Lichinsky then finished 1-2 in the 100 freestyle as Souza posted a winning time of 45.35 and Lichinsky was second with a time of 45.59. Yavari was fourth with a time of 45.79. The top finisher for S&T was Connor Wiedemeier, who placed 12th overall with a time of 48.06.
 
Rozenek and Carey went first and third in the 100 backstroke as Rozenek posted a time of 49.22 and Carey was third with a time of 50.57. S&T was second in this event as Noah Clancy posted a runner-up time of 49.97.
 
The next event was the 400 IM as Lustig won the event, while S&T's Bichsel was second with a time of 4:08.92 and Troyer was third with a time of 4:10.45. In the 400 IM, McKendree went first, third, fifth, eighth, while S&T went second, sixth, seventh and ninth.
 
Friday's final event of the first day of the meet was the 200-freestyle relay as the Bearcats went first, third and fifth overall. The 'A' 200 freestyle relay team that consisted of freshman Mario Perez Torrado (Madrid, Spain/Gredos San Diego), Law, Souza and Lichinsky posted a time of 1:21.93.
 
The 'B' team was third with a time of 1:23.68, while the 'C' team was fifth with a time of 1:25.34. The 'B' team featured freshman Kirk Brotherton (North Liberty, Iowa/Iowa City West), Yavari, Carey and sophomore Leo Gandaria-Hernandez (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) and the 'C' team featured freshman Finn Moseley (Devonshire, Bermuda/Plymouth College), sophomore Abram Hagedorn (Oregon, Ohio/Toledo School of Arts), Rozenek and sophomore Nick Khatkovyy (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South).
 
Missouri S&T's 200 freestyle relay team placed seventh in the event with a time of 1:26.45.
