ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University men's soccer (5-5-6, 3-4-5 GLVC) closed out the 2022 campaign on Sunday afternoon, dropping its regular season finale to UMSL, 2-1. The Bearcats missed out on the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament with the loss, closing out the fall season.
The Bearcats came out strong in the Sunday contest, firing a goal in the 15th minute of play to take a 1-0 advantage. The goal came off a quick array of passes with senior forward
Tony Bodul firing a long shot beyond the 18-yard box to score. Bodul's goal was assisted on by sophomore defender
Matteo Schubert and freshman midfielder
Gabe Hallsten. The goal was Bodul's second of the year.
McKendree held the 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission period.
UMSL came into the second half with vigor, firing a goal 10 minutes into the second period of play. The Tritons fired their first score in the 56th minute to knot the outing at one goal each.
UMSL then added a second and eventual game-winning goal in the 69th minute of action, taking a 2-1 advantage. The Tritons held off McKendree for the remainder of the game.
McKendree was knocked out of postseason contention with the loss.
