O'FALLON, Ill. – The No. 2 ranked McKendree men's swimming and diving team concluded its triangular dual meet with Saint Louis and eighth-ranked Oklahoma Christian here Saturday at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool.
McKendree picked up two wins in the dual meet as the Bearcats defeated both Saint Louis (217-114) and Oklahoma Christian (207-105).
In the double-dual meet that was spread over two days, the Bearcats won 12 of the 19 events, including winning three of the four relay events and turned in one 'B' qualifying time.
Six Bearcats won at least two events, including fifth-year senior
Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley) and sophomore
Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) each won four events, with three of Lichinsky's wins coming in relays, while three of Lustig's wins came in individual events.
In addition to Lichinsky and Lustig, junior
Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo) and sophomore
Patryk Rozenek (Radlin, Poland/Zsoms Raciborz) each won three events with two of those wins coming in relays.
The dual meet began with the 400 medley relay and the Bearcats went first, second and fifth. The 'A' relay team recorded a first place time of 3:17.08, while the 'B' Team was second with a time of 3:20.38 and the 'C' Team was fifth with a time of 3:26.06. McKendree placed second and third in the 1,000 freestyle as freshman
Preston Troyer (Dayton, Ohio/Xenia Christian) was second with a time of 9:39.63 and freshman
Caden Brooks (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) was third with a time of 9:48.63.
Lustig won the next event as he placed first in the 200 butterfly with an NCAA 'B' time of 1:45, while the Bearcats went first and fourth in the 200 breaststroke as Pinheiro was first with a time of 2:03.11 and freshman
Noah Tague (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) was fourth with a time of 2:08.33.
The Bearcats had eight of the nine places in the 100 freestyle as Souza won the event in a time of 45.35, while Lichinsky was second with a time of 45.59, Yavari was fourth with a time of 45.79 and Law was fifth with a time of 46.01.
Rozenek, Carey and sophomore
Abram Hagedorn (Oregon, Ohio/Toledo School for the Arts) were first, third and fifth overall as Rozenek won the event with a time of 49.22, while Carey was third with a time of 50.57 and Hagedorn swam a time of 51.66 to place fifth.
Lustig won his second individual event as he placed first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.25. Troyer was third with a time of 4:10.48 and Brooks was fifth with a time of 4:13.98.
The next event was the 200 freestyle relay and the Bearcats went first, third and fifth as the 'A' Team posted a time of 1:21.93 to win the event. The members of the 'A' team were freshman
Mario Perez Torrado (Madrid, Spain/Gredos San Diego), Law, Souza and Lichinsky. The 'B' Team was third with a time of 1:23.68 as the members of the team were freshman
Kirk Brotherton (North Liberty, Iowa/Iowa City West), Yavari, Carey and sophomore
Leo Gandaria-Hernandez (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) and the 'C' Team of freshman
Finn Moseley (Devonshire, Bermuda/Plymouth College), Hagedorn, Rozenek and sophomore
Nick Khatkovyy (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) was fifth with a time of 1:25.34.
McKendree's third relay win came in the 200-medley relay as the Bearcats' 'A' Team recorded a time of 1:30.17 to finish in first place. The members of the winning relay team were Rozenek, Pinheiro, Lichinsky and Perez Torrado. In fact, the 'B' Team was second with a time of 1:30.98. The members of the 'B' Team were Carey, Law, Lustig and Brotherton.
Lichinsky lone individual event win came in the 50 freestyle as he swam a time of 20.76. Perez Torrado placed second with a time 20.85.
Rozenek, Hagedorn and Brooks went 1-2-3 in the 200 backstroke as Rozenek was first with a time of 1:50.63, whi;e Hagedorn was second with a time of 1:54.62 and Brooks was third with a time of 1:55.58.
In the 100 breaststoke, Pinherio placed second with a time of 56.30 and Law was fourth with a time of 57.53.
Yavari would then pick up a win in the next event as he recorded a first place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.52. Gandaria-Hernandez was the runner-up with a time of 1:40.75.
Lustig's next individual win came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.03 as he was one of three Bearcats to finish in the Top 4 of the event as Rozenek was second with a time of 49.98 and Carey was fourth with a time of 51.27.
In the 200 IM, which was the final individual event of the meet, Lustig was the runner-up with a time of 1:52.06. Freshman

The Bearcats return to the pool to host top-ranked University of Indianapolis on Friday, Nov. 4. The meet will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool.
