LEBANON, Ill. - No.11 McKendree University men's wrestling (1-0) began its dual match slate for 2022-23 with a dominant showing against the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan, beating the visiting Panthers, 40-4 on Wednesday night. McKendree claimed eight of nine dual matchups with three coming via techincal fall.

Sophmore
Jason Strope earned his matchup over Bryson Rowley after getting ahead early with a four-point first period. Strope recorded a takedown and a two-point nearfall to begin the match. He then added another takedown in the second period as Rowley grabbed an escape in the second. Rowley nearly came back in the third with a four-point nearfall. Strope added one point to assure the victory via riding time, a 7-5 decision.

Sophomore
Rasheek Bonds represented the Bearcats in the 141 class against KWC's Jackson Norton, earning a major decision. Bonds fired off early with six points in the first period behind two takedowns and a two-point nearfall. The sophomore continued the smae way in the second period with a reversal after starting on bottom and then a nearfall. Bonds collected an extra point via riding time at the end of the match, winning 17-4.

Sophomore
Ryan Haynes took his matchup against Will Keener via fall in the first period. Haynes kicked things off with a takedown and four-point nearfall. He turned it back on following the nearfall to convert the pinfall victory at the 1:38 mark of the first period.

Redshirt sophomore
Cory Peterson dominated early and often in his match, taking nearly the full outing to reach his tech fall win over Cade Johnson. Peterson had five takedowns in the first three minutes while he added four more in the last two period with two reversals. He grabbed the 24-9 tech fall win at the 6:05 mark.

Redshirt freshman
Zeke Waltz followed in Peterson's path with another tech fall win, 20-5, over Caden Moore of KWC. Waltz earned six takedowns and a four-point nearfall in the first period. He wrapped up the match at the 3:18 mark with a takedown.

Senior
Joshua Jones, who competed at 174 last season, started off his 184 career against Brycen Gray of KWC. Jones blasted out of the gate with four takedowns in the first period before rolling it into a pinfall victory at 2:47.

Redshirt sophomore
Logan Kvien nearly took his match by pinfall in the first period as he grabbed a four-point nearfall over Drayden McKerrow. Kvien another nearfall in the second period along with a takedown. The redshirt sophomore allowed just one point in the outing, winning 16-1 at the 6:39 mark.

Redshirt freshman
Dustin Olmstead recorded his win after a null first period for him and KWC's Robert Ward. Olmstead recorded a takedown and escape in the second period and then two takedowns in the third period. Olmstead earned the victory following injury to Ward. He led the match prior to the KWC injury.
