COLUMBIA, Mo. – The McKendree University women's swimming & diving team continued competition here Thursday on the second day of the Mizzou Invitational held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
On the second day of action, the Bearcat women recorded a school record and an NCAA Provisional time in the 800 freestyle relay and tallied 18 season best times in the finals.
After two days of the event, McKendree sits in fourth place of six teams with 328 points. McKendree is the lone Division II team competing in the event.
The best event on the second night of finals for McKendree was the last one – 800 freestyle relay. In the event, McKendree's 'A' Team placed fourth overall with a school record and NCAA Provisional time of 7:30.96. The time bettered the old school record of 7:35.35 set at the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
In Thursday's finals, the members of the school record setting relay team were freshman
Jocelyn Zgola (Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale), redshirt freshman
McKenzie Fazio (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River), freshman
Natalia Kralova (Poprad, Slovakia/Gymnasium Ivana Horvatha) and freshman
Ana Cecilia Carvalho (Belo Horizonte, Brazi/Colegio Loyola).
In addition to finishing fourth, McKendree's 'B' Team of sophomore
Sarah Gormley (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces), sophomore
Karley Sonnenberg (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North), junior
Alexis Kachkin (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and freshman
Terrah DeLorimiere (Lubbock, Texas/Coronado) posted a time of 7:50.16 to finish sixth in the 800 freestyle relay.
Thursday night's finals began with the 100 butterfly and the Bearcats recorded three season best times in the 'B' Final of the event as freshman
Keianna Moss (Nassau, Bahamas/Focus Point Academy) was 11th with a time of 56.75. Fazio was 13th with a time of 57.49 and sophomore
Aurora Abbruscato (Reggio Emilia, Italy/I.I.S. Blaise Pascal) was 16th with a time of 58.05.
The next event was the 200 medley relay as the Bearcats 'A' relay team posted a season best time of 1:43.12 to finish in fifth place. The members of the relay team were Kachkin, senior
Grace Credit (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township), Moss and fifth-year senior
Abigail Rumpp (Knoxville, Tenn./L&N STEM Academy).
Gormley recorded a season best time of 4:32.19 in the 400 IM to finish in seventh place in the 'A' Final.
In the 200 freestyle, the Bearcats set four season best times in the 'B' Final as Carvalho was 11th with a time of 1:51.83, while Zgola was 13th with a time of 1:52.01. Kralova was 15th with a time of 1:53.29 and Fazio was 16th with a time of 1:53.77.
Four more season best times were set in the 'B' Final of the 100 breaststroke as Credit was the top finisher for the Bearcats as she was 11th with a time of 1:04.95. Freshman
Rylee Sitton (Troy, Ill./Triad) was 12th with a time of 1:05.84, while sophomore
Presley Heitzmann (Magnolia, Texas/Magnolia) was 13th with a time of 1:06.58 and senior
Emily Drabick (Barto, Pa./Florida Southern) was 14th with a time of 1:07.89.
The final individual event of the second night of the finals was the 100 backstroke as Rumpp and sophomore
Caitlyn Sligh (Tomball, Texas/Tomball Memorial) each recorded season best times in the 'B' Final as Rumpp was 10th with a time of 57.11 and Sligh was 12th with a time of 59.00.
The meet concludes on Friday.
