MARSHALL, Mo. - No.4 McKendree University women's wrestling finished out the final rounds of the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday afternoon with senior 191 wrestler
Sydnee Kimber taking first in her weight class while four other Bearcats placed in the tournament. McKendree's next outing will be at the North Central Open in Naperville, Illinois on December 11.
191 CLASS
Senior
Sydnee Kimber began her season in a strong way with a first place finish in the weekend open with a 6-0 record. Kimber began her finale campaign with two pins, two tech falls, and a decision victory to win her weight class. The Sitka, Alaska-native beat out Campbellsville's Cassandra Smith to start the tournament, winning by fall in under a minute and a half. The senior then won her next three to enter the semifinal round with a win by tech fall (12-0) over Texas Woman's Aubrey Yauger, pin over Ottawa's Skylee Dodd, and Cumberlands' Jesse Kirby. The semifinal round put Kimber against former teammate Jaycee Foeller of Central Methodist. Kimber defeated Foeller by fall at the 2:14 mark. In the first place matchup, Kimber earned a decision victory by 6-4 count over MoVal's Kelani Corbett.
130 CLASS
Junior
Cameron Guerin claimed second in the two-day weekend, going 5-1 overall. Guerin, a native of Yakima, Washington, grabbed three technical fall wins with two pinfall victories through the weekend, beginning with a one-minute fall against Ottawa's Madelynn Griffin. The junior then put up a 10-0 tech fall win over Midland's Avery Thomason and entered the quarterfinal round with a third win overall and second by fall (0:48) against Devin Patton of Texas Wesleyan. Both of Guerin's quarterfinal and semifinal wins came via technical fall with a win over Iowa Wesleyan's JoAnna Vanderwood (10-0) and then Campbellsville's Angela Vitritti (10-0). Her first-palce match was against Texas Wesleyan and U23 world team member Lexie Basham. Guerin and Bashman battled as Basham took the match by 3-1 decision.
