MADISON, Wis. - No.13 McKendree University men's wrestling (1-1) dropped its first dual of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Wisconsin Wrestling Showcase at the UW Field House, as the No.13 Bearcats fell to the No.11 UW-Parkside Rangers, 24-14. McKendree grabbed three match victories in the dual with two matches gaining bonus point-victories. The Bearcats will compete at the largest Division II open this weekend at the 43rd Midwest Classic at UIndy on December 17 and 18.
125 CLASS
Redshirt junior #10
Christian Mejia kicked off the dual for the Bearcats with a pinfall victory over Shane Corrigan. Mejia went down early as Corrigan fought through with a first period takedown, holding a 2-0 lead into the second period. The redshirt junior Mejia then chose to begin the second period on bottom before reversing the position, tying the match at 2-2. Mejia forced the fall victory at the 3:25 mark of the match for the win. He earned six points for the Bearcats in the dual with the pin.
174 CLASS
Redshirt freshman
Zeke Waltz made the comeback win in the 174 class matchup, winning by 3-1 6-5 decision over Crosby Schlosser. Waltz was down 2-1 at the end of the first period after escaping a takedown by Schlosser, then sat down one point after the second in where he earned a takedown but Schlosser escaped. In the third period, Waltz began on bottom before escaping with ample time to spare. He followed the one-point escape with a takedown, which put the redshirt freshman up, 6-4, over Schlosser. The Ranger made it 6-5 with an escape against Waltz but the Bearcats prevailed in the end with a decision victory and three team points.
197 CLASS
Redshirt sophomore
Logan Kvien left no doubt in his matchup as he amassed 19 points with a tech fall win over Joseph Swanson at the end of all three periods. Kvien nearly took the match in the first period after getting two takedowns and a four-point nearfall, leading eight to one following the first three minutes. In the second, Kvien began on bottom with an escape and another takedown, collecting riding time in the process. In the third, Kvien and Swanson started neutral with the Bearcat taking control quickly with two takedowns and a two-point nearfall in the period. Kvien added one point via riding time, making it 19-2 overall at the conclusion of the third period.
