LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree University redshirt junior receiver
Jacob Bachman (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) made history on Wednesday afternoon as the two-time First-Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree was named a First-Team Division II Academic All-America as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday.
With his honor, Bachman becomes just the fifth McKendree student-athlete to earn CSC Academic All-America honors and the second Bearcat football player to receive the accolade as Allen Walter was selected as a second team Academic All-America at running back in 2000.
The 2022 Academic All-America® Football Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Bachman earns his First-Team CSC Academic All-America honor after catching a single season school record 100 passes for 837 years and seven touchdown receptions in 2022. The 100 catches this season bettered Bachman's old school record of 80 set during the 2021 season. The 100 receptions were tied for second-most in Division II, while his 9.1 receptions per game led the GLVC and was tied for second nationally in Division II.
The four-time member of the GLVC All-Academic Football Team closed his Bearcat career as the school's all-time leader in receptions (216), receiving yards (2,177) and was tied for third in touchdown catches with 15 and is ninth in all-purpose yards (2,540). Additionally, Bachman set a new single game record in 2022 with 18 pass receptions against NCAA Playoff participant University of Indianapolis. Along with earning back-to-back First-Team All-GLVC accolades, Bachman earned Honorable Mention All-GLVC honors in 2020 and was the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week during the 2021 season.
Bachman was named a CSC Academic All-District in late November and is majoring in Management and carries a 3.86 cumulative GPA. He was one of eight Bearcats to earn Academic All-District honors this season as along with Bachman, the other Bearcats selected were sophomore punter
Kaleb Barry (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville), redshirt sophomore defensive back
Josh Bleich (Melvin, Ill./Gibson City-Mlevin-Sibley), sophomore offensive lineman
Billy Doyle IV (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township), edshirt junior quarterback
Turner Pullen (Shelbyville, Ill./Shelbyville), redshirt junior receiver
Tyler Siever (Carlyle, Ill./Carlyle), sophomore tight end
Jordan Sprycha (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) and redshirt senior offensive lineman
Kenny Thomason (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour).
Bachman is one of three players from the GLVC named to the Division II Academic All-America Football Team as he is joined by two players from the University of Indianapolis. Senior defensive lineman Aaron Barnett was named a first team selection, while his fellow Greyhound teammate, senior running back Jaquan Buchanan, was named a second team selection.
In addition to Walter and Bachman, McKendree's other CSC Academic All-Americans are Justin Knolhoff, who was a first team baseball selection as an infielder in 2002, while men's tennis player Leonardo Frederico and men's swimmer Xander Skinner each earned first team At-Large honors in 2022. Additionally, Skinner was named the Division II Men's At-Large Academic All-America Team Member of the Year.
