TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - McKendree University Baseball (2-4) recovered in the third game of its series at Northeastern State, winning 11-10 over the hosting-RiverHawks, but dropped the opener on Friday, February 18, 16-6, and the first game of the February 19 double-header, 15-0. The Bearcats will look to split the series on Sunday in the fourth and final game of the weekend.
Game 3 | February 19
The Bearcats scored six runs in the second inning to tie the game and then took the lead in the third behind one run, going up 7-6 on the RiverHawks. The McKendree offense was led by senior infielder
Alex Steinbach, who batted in four runs and scored two with two hits while senior outfielder
Corey Price added in three RBIs on two hits, also scoring two runs. Senior infielder
Joseph Costanzo collected three hits on four at-bats, scoring two runs, and batting-in one. McKendree capped off its game three with a four-run fifith inning, which included a three-run Steinbach homer.Â
On the mound in game three, graduate senior pitcher
Andrew Yancik (1-0) earned the victory behind 3.1 innings pitched, allowing zero earned runs and just three hits with a pair of strikeouts.Â
Game 2 | February 19
The Bearcats struggled in restarting their hitting but were unable to do so in game two of the series against Northeastern State. McKendree went down in the second inning by one run but allowed four more in the third during the early-afternoon matchup. The Bearcats only collected three hits in the first game of the Saturday double-header.
Game 1 | February 18
McKendree hit the ground running in the first inning of the new series on Friday afternoon, scoring six runs, which included a grand slam from graduate senior catcher
Mason Hale. Following the explosive first inning, McKendree's bats cooled off quickly and leaked into game two of the series on Saturday.Â
