LINCOLN, Neb. – The top-ranked McKendree University women's bowling team sits in second place after day one of action at the Big Red Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska and held at the Hollywood Bowl.
McKendree finished Friday's first day of competition with a 5-0 record and recorded a total pinfall of 5,622 and averaged 224.9 per game. The Bearcats sit just 18 pins behind day one leader, No. 3 ranked Nebraska, who posted a 4-1 record and a pinfall of 5,640 and averaged 225.6 per game.
In Friday's Baker format games, the Bearcats started out with a win over No. 9 Youngstown State, 1,121-1,089, before posting a 42 pin win over Nebraska, 1,182-1,140, in its second game. McKendree then picked up a win over Valparaiso, 1,127-941 in the third game.
McKendree's fourth win in Baker play on Friday came against No. 25 Central Missouri (1,078-910) and then ended the first day with a win over No. 22 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 1,114-954.
While McKendree and Nebraska are first and second on the team leaderboard after the first day, Youngstown State went 3-2 and recorded a pinfall of 5,380 and averaged 215.2 per game to sit in third place, while No. 7 Arkansas State sits in fourth place as they went 1-4 and recorded a pinfall of 5,308 and averaged 212.3 per game.
The tournament continues on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9:10 a.m. with a position round game, before playing four more traditional style games. McKendree opens Saturday's action with a rematch against Valparaiso, before facing Quincy, Arkansas State, Wisconsin-Whitewater and Central Missouri.
