Women's Hockey Earns Spot in ACHA National Tournament

Bearcats take on Lindenwood in Maryland Heights on March 16

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's hockey will travel across the St. Louis metro area for the ACHA women's D1 tournament on March 16-20 as it claimed the eighth seed in the national tournament, which will be held at Centene Community Ice Arena in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Bearcats enter the national postseason event with a 10-8 overall record after they dropped the opening round matchup versus Midland in the WMCH tournament but capped off the regular season with back-to-back wins.

McKendree will take on the fifth-seeded Lindenwood Lions in the first round of the ACHA tournament, who own an 19-5 (11-2) record on the year. The two in-league losses for the Lions came at the paws of the Bearcats on February 6 and February 22. The win on February 6 marked the Bearcats' first victory over the Lions ever while pair of victories were the only two losses in conference that Lindenwood suffered on the year.

THIS SEASON
McKendree opened the year on a three-game winning streak, defeating Maryville in three of four opening bouts. The Bearcats then capped-off the regular season with three wins in five matches and ended on wins over Minnesota and Lindenwood.

On the attack, juniors Camryn Scully and Quinn Atchison lead the charge with 15 points each while Scully owns six goals with nine assists and Atchison has collected four goals and 11 assists. Freshman Aria Groot and junior Juliana Davis each trail slightly with 12 points a piece. Groot has fired five goals and dished out seven assists and Davis scored three and assisted on nine. In the goal, senior Naomi Leasck held the net for 12 (691 minutes) outings, going 6-6 with a 2.86 goals allowed average and a 0.919 save percentage. Sophomore Brianna Burke took the net in the remaining six contests (357 minutes), saving 92.6 percent of shots and allowing just 1.51 goals per game.
