SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - McKendree University baseball (4-10) met the red-hot UIS Prairie Stars on the weekend and dropped the final game of the three-game slate on a 14-6 score. The Bearcats knotted up the game in the third inning but were unable to slow the UIS bats throughout the remainder of the outing. McKendree will host Grand Valley State in its next series at home on March 19-20.
Illinois Springfield went up 2-0 on the Bearcats in the first inning but McKendree fired back in the third to tie the game at two runs a piece. Freshman infieldeer
Gavin Arseneau dropped a single into left before sophomore outfielder
Joseph Copeland blasted a homer, making it 2-2.
The Prairie Stars put up five more runs before the Bearcats could tack on more. McKendree's half of the fifth brought another bomb by Copeland which got Arseneau home, once again. Senior infielder
Alex Steinbach reached after he was hit by a pitch and advanced on a single by senior outfielder
Corey Price. Junior outfielder
Austin Fleming rattled off another single for the Bearcats, which brought in Steinbach while senior infielder
Joseph Costanzo's single to center got Price home. The Bearcats trailed by just one run, 7-6, to the Stars.
UIS went on to add seven unanswered to end the outing, winning 14-6 over McKendree.
