DENVER, Colo. – The McKendree University women's lacrosse team continued its Spring Break trip to the Rocky Mountain State here Tuesday afternoon as the Bearcats suffered a 17-6 setback to 11th-ranked Regis University at the newly renovated Regis Lacrosse Field.
With the setback, McKendree falls to 1-1 on its road trip and 3-4 overall on the season, while Regis improved to 4-0 on the season.
Junior attacker
Sydney Tiemann (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) scored four of McKendree's six goals and has now scored 22 goals on the season. In addition to Tiemann, the Bearcats other goals were scored by junior attacker
Kat Albrecht (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) and junior midfielder
Aly Curran (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba).
Regis, who improved to 6-0 all-time against the Bearcats, jumped in front 4-1 in the opening period of play. In fact, the Rangers scored the first four goals of the game, before Albrecht scored McKendree's first goal with 3:03 left in the period.
The Rangers would put the game away with a nine goal second quarter as Regis led 13-2 at the half. Curran scored the lone Bearcat goal on an unassisted goal with a man-up advantage with 4:48 left in the second period.
The two teams played even in the second half as each team scored four goals with all four of McKendree's goals coming from Tiemann. Albrecht assisted on Tiemann's first goal of the third quarter.
Lucy Johnson led Regis with four goals on five shots, while Tia Krats added three goals and Kyleigh Peoples and Alexis Parker each had two goals in the win.
McKendree was outshot, 37-25 by the Ragners as Tiemann recorded 11 shots to pace the Bearcats. Regis also held a 24-16 edge in shots on goal.
Regis also won the draw control battle (18-8) and ground balls (23-18).
The Rangers turned the ball over 16 times as the Bearcats caused 11 turnovers, including three by sophomore defender
Maddie Dalonzo (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township). McKendree had 13 turnovers in the game.
Junior goalie
Clara Andrews (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) played the first half in goal and allowed 13 goals and made three saves and caused a turnover, while sophomore
Gretchen Kuhn (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) played the second half between the pipes and allowed four goals and made four saves.
The Bearcats will continue its Spring Break trip with a 4 p.m. MT game on Wednesday, March 16 in Grand Junction, Colo., against Colorado Mesa.
