SMYRNA, Tenn. – The top-ranked McKendree University women's bowling team sits in first place out of 33 teams after the first day of action here Friday at Columbia 300 Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University and held at Smyrna Bowling Center.
McKendree finished Friday's first day of competition with a 5-0 record and recorded a total pinfall of 5,300 and averaged 212.0 per game. The Bearcats are 129 pins in front second place No. 8 ranked Stephen F. Austin, who went 4-1 and recorded 5,171 pins and averaged 206.8 per game and 171 pins in front of third place No. 4 ranked Vanderbilt, who went 2-2 with a total of 5,129 pins and averaged 205.2 per game.
The Bearcats, who are the defending Columbia 300 Music City Classic Champions, are one of 19 teams ranked in the latest NTCA Coaches poll competing in the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, including the Top 5 teams ranked in the NTCA poll.
In Friday's Baker format games, the Bearcats started out with a hard-fought win over Valparaiso (1,090-1,023), before posting a win over Jackson State University (977-833) and then earned a 1,073-891 win over 21st-ranked Lewis University.
McKendree's fourth win in Friday's Baker play came against No. 2 ranked Nebraska as the Bearcats defeated the Huskers by 185 pins (1,145-960) and concluded the first day of action with a win over 22nd-ranked Lincoln Memorial (1,015-983).
The tournament continues Saturday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m. with five traditional games as the Bearcats will play two position games to start the second day of action, before facing Kentucky Wesleyan, seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech and Alabama-Birmingham to conclude the second day of bowling.
