William Jewell put up a trio of runs in its opening half inning after it strung together a trio of singles and a double. McKendree got out of the inning with junior
Garrett Herring's first strikeout of the game. WJC then tacked on one more run in the fifth to make it a 4-0 game.
The Bearcats could not get anything put together with all four hits coming in separate innings. McKendree's four hits came from senior infielder
Alex Steinbach, senior outfielder
Corey Price, redshirt junior
Austin Francis, and sophomore outfielder
Joseph Copeland.
Herring took the loss in game one, moving to 2-3 on the year.
GAME 2
The Bearcats went up quick with two runs in the first inning with senior outfielder
Ryan Hutchinson collecting a single and driving in freshman infielder
Gavin Arseneau. Price then reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Hutchinson to reach home and put McKendree up, 2-0.
William Jewell put up five-straight runs to go up by three over the hosting-Bearcats. The Cardinals' stretch featured a steal of home, two singles, a double, and triple to push for the lead. After five innings, William Jewell led 5-2.
In the seventh, junior outfielder
Katom Parnell walked to reach base and then proceeded to steal second. Hutchinson added a baserunner with another walk for the Bearcats, leading to Steinbach at the plate. The senior third baseman then put up a booming homer to left field, tying the game at five runs a piece and pushing it to extra innings.
The eighth inning for McKendree was one up and game with the lead-off hitter Francis sending a bomb shot out to left field, giving the Bearcats a walk-off win over Jewell, 6-5.
